On September 15th, 2022 Ethereum completed The Merge, which transitioned the consensus model from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake.

As a result of this transition, Ethereum has made the following changes in regards to testnets:

Added support for the following proof-of-stake testnets:

Deprecated support for the following proof-of-work testnets:

If you are developing on Ethereum and using testnets, you will likely be impacted by this change.

Magic will continue to support the deprecated proof-of-work testnets until October 5th, 2022. Additionally, Magic has added support for the Goerli proof-of-stake testnet. Learn more about connecting to Goerli in our docs here.

If you would like to begin testing today with the Goerli testnet you may upgrade your Magic SDKs to the following versions:

Magic SDKs will officially deprecate support for Ropsten, Kovan, and Rinkeby testnets on October 5th, 2022. You will receive errors when using these testnets on or after this date.
